Sister Kang Carla: The Angel with Blue Eyes

Often called the angel with blue eyes, she devoted her life to caring for patients with Hansen’s disease in the remote village ____ Hoam, Gochang, Jeollabuk-do.

Born in Bernezzo, Italy in 1943, Sister Carla became a nun at the age of 19 and ended up caring for more than 120 war ____

“I thought that instead of starting a family and ____ for my own children only, I could devote my life to caring for more children.”

She added, “I also became a nun because I ____ to fulfill the dream of my late brother, who wanted to become a priest but passed away before he could.”

The 25-year-old Sister Carla came to Korea in 1968 after hearing about many war orphans and ____ patients in Korea.

Back then, people excluded Hansen’s patients from ____ general public due to various prejudices.

People falsely believed that Hansen’s disease was highly contagious, and also felt uncomfortable with the appearance of ____ patients.
